Our Story
My journey began as a Geological Engineering Consultant, where I worked on numerous projects in the environmental and mining industries. In this role, I was responsible for conducting site investigations, characterizing contaminated sites, and developing remediation plans. It was during this time that I realized the importance of data-driven decision making, and how it could be used to help clients make informed decisions.
This led me to pursue a Ph.D. in Ecohydrology at Boston University, where I focused on modeling the dynamic response of forests to drought stress. This work involved using advanced statistical methods, programming, and geodynamical modeling techniques to better understand how forests respond to changes in climate. It also required me to develop new approaches for analyzing large datasets and integrating multiple sources of information into predictive models.
After completing my Ph.D., I joined the faculty at the University of Illinois, where I've continued to build on my expertise in environmental database management, consulting, and advanced data assimilation techniques. In my role as a Teaching Assistant Professor and Director of our Environmental Geology Graduate Programs, I've had the opportunity to teach courses in advanced statistical methods, geodynamical modeling, environmental database management, and consulting. I've also had the opportunity to work with graduate students on a variety of research projects, including the use of advanced data assimilation techniques to help forecast volcanic eruptions.
Throughout my career, I've found that math, statistics, programming, analysis, visualization, and communication are common threads that tie together all of my professional ventures. I've also come to appreciate the importance of collaboration and teamwork in developing innovative data-driven solutions that solve complex problems. I'm excited to continue building on these skillsets and working with others to develop solutions that empower businesses to make informed decisions and achieve their goals.
